Removal Companies, Man and Van Services, and Vehicle Hire: Which one to Chose when Moving Home

If you've just put down the deposit for a new home, then it's time to consider the logistics of moving: how will you choose to transport your things from your current residence to your new one. Unless you are already the owner of a spacious vehicle, like a transit van, then you'll need to hire one of the following: a removal company, a man with a van service, or a vehicle that you drive yourself. Which one you choose will largely depend on your individual circumstances, such as your moving budget, how many possessions you need to transport, and how far you are moving. Let this short article be a guide for which one to choose.First thing you'll need to know in order to decide on your form of transport is how much you have to transport. You'll need a rough estimate of the volume of your items, although this is in no way has to be exact. Volume, for those of us who don't remember our maths classes at school, is height x width x depth. The reason you'll need to know this is because you'll need to know what size vehicle you'll require to transport your items. If all of your belongings cannot fit in a 3.5 tonne vehicle, then using a man with a van service is probably not the best option for you, as most man and van companies use 3.5 tonne vehicles. Removal companies will have 7.5 tonne vehicles if needed. Although they are the most expensive option, you'll be sure to fit all your belongings in the van in one trip. On top of all that, if you hire a removal company, you'll get a professional service that will pack, transport, and unpack your things for you if you require them to do so. You can also hire a 7.5 tonne vehicle at prices starting around £60 for a day. This may or may not be cheaper than hiring a removal company. To find out, simply get quotes from removal companies and vehicle self-drive companies. This will give you more information which, in turn, will lead you to making a more informed and economical decision.Another circumstance that will dictate your choice is how far you are moving. If, metaphorically speaking, you are only moving down the road then the cheapest option for you is to use a man and van service. As these charge by the hour – with rates starting at £15 – this will be the cheapest option for a local move as it shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 hours, as long as you have everything packed up and ready to go as soon as the man and his van get there. Even if all your items can't fit into the 3.5 tonne vans that are provided by the service, you can make two trips and this will still probably be cheaper than hiring a removal company or hiring a vehicle. However, if you are moving out of the city, to a place which takes a fair long time to drive to, then do not use a man with a van service. As they charge by the hour, a move that will take a long time will end up being quite costly. As removal companies, most of them anyway, and vehicle hire companies charge by the day, then a move that will take the best part of the day will end up being cheaper using one of these services. One final thing to consider is whether you'll need insurance for the move. As items can break easily during transport, if you have a lot of valuable possessions then it may be best to go with a removal company, as these provide insurance policies for the move.
