Balham Removals Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps Balham Removals has taken, and continues to take, to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in our operations or supply chains. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing effective systems and controls to safeguard against any form of modern slavery.
Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy
Balham Removals adopts a strict zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery in all its forms, including forced labour, servitude, child labour, human trafficking, and all related exploitation. We expect the same high standards from all of our employees, contractors, suppliers, and business partners.
No form of modern slavery is acceptable or tolerated within our business or supply chains. Any suspected breach of this policy will be investigated thoroughly and may result in termination of employment or commercial relationships, as well as notification to relevant authorities where appropriate.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Balham Removals operates in the removals and relocation sector, providing domestic and commercial moving services. Our supply chains include providers of vehicles, fuel, packaging materials, storage facilities, equipment, and certain outsourced services. We recognise that some of these sectors may be at higher risk of labour exploitation and we are committed to proactively managing that risk.
Supplier Standards and Due Diligence
We are working to ensure that our suppliers share our values and meet our ethical expectations. As part of our onboarding and ongoing relationship management, we set clear standards that suppliers must:
Operate in full compliance with applicable labour, employment and human rights laws, including prohibitions on forced labour and human trafficking.
Provide safe and fair working conditions, including fair wages, reasonable working hours, and freedom of movement.
Maintain records to demonstrate compliance with these obligations and make them available for review when requested.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
Balham Removals conducts proportionate risk-based checks and audits on selected suppliers. These reviews may include, depending on the level of risk identified:
Requests for documented evidence of labour practices and human rights policies.
Questionnaires or declarations relating to modern slavery and ethical conduct.
On-site visits or inspections, where feasible, to understand working conditions and employment practices.
Where issues or concerns are identified, we will work with the supplier to agree corrective actions and timeframes. If a supplier fails to address serious concerns or is found to be involved in modern slavery, we may suspend or terminate the relationship.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Balham Removals encourages employees, contractors, and third parties to report any concerns about modern slavery, human trafficking, or unethical labour practices connected to our business or supply chains.
Concerns can be raised through internal management channels or through our whistleblowing arrangements. Reports can be made confidentially and will be treated seriously, investigated promptly, and handled with sensitivity. No individual will suffer any detrimental treatment for raising a genuine concern about modern slavery.
Training and Awareness
We aim to build awareness and understanding of modern slavery risks among relevant staff, particularly those involved in procurement, supplier management, and recruitment. This may include guidance on identifying warning signs of exploitation and the steps to take if concerns arise.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
Balham Removals recognises that tackling modern slavery is an ongoing process. We are committed to continuous improvement of our policies, procedures, and due diligence measures.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually by our senior management team to assess its effectiveness and to identify opportunities for improvement. The review will consider changes in our business activities, feedback from stakeholders, outcomes of audits, and developments in best practice and legislation.
Following each annual review, we will update this statement as necessary and communicate any significant changes to our employees and, where appropriate, to our suppliers and other stakeholders.
This statement has been approved by the management of Balham Removals and constitutes our Modern Slavery Statement for the relevant financial year.
